Tower of David, Jerusalem

The Tower of David is far more than one of the most recognizable symbols of Jerusalem. It stands above Jaffa Gate, at the entrance to the Old City, and has become over the years a symbol of Jerusalem, and to a large extent of Zionism as a whole—see the antique postcard displayed here.

The first panorama here is from Patzael Tower, the highest point in the Old City, at an elevation of 777 meters above sea level. In fact, this point is slightly higher than the famous minaret itself, to which I was also privileged to ascend, and this is the second panorama. Climbing up there was a dream for me, and I have already fulfilled it twice, as part of tours with the Tower of David Travelers’ Community. Thanks to the tours, I got to know the Tower and Jerusalem from different angles. I’ve done several more tours with the community, beneath the Tower of David, above it, around it, and also in more distant places in Jerusalem and the surrounding area.

And this is perhaps one of the things I love most about this city. Even after countless visits, you can always reach another corner, climb to another viewpoint, hear another story, and discover something new. Jerusalem simply never ends.
