Mount Herzl, Jerusalem

“If you will it, it is no dream. But if you do not will it, it remains a dream – and will stay a dream.” Many are not familiar with the continuation of the saying coined by Theodor Herzl. The second part is just as important as the first.
Herzl’s dream was fulfilled almost entirely after fifty years and two world wars. What hasn’t been fulfilled… will also come.
Those who know me know that I too have many dreams, and one specific dream that some define as a fairy tale. Herzl wrote about this too:

“What the devil is that?” exclaimed Kingscourt, pointing to a large iron carriage that was flying above the palm trees, its passengers visible through the windows. The carriage was suspended and hovering over a network of an enormous iron bridge.

And David Littwak replied: “That is the flying electric railway. Surely you’ve seen something like it in Europe.”

“We haven’t been to Europe in twenty years.”

“The suspended railway isn’t a new invention. It already existed in the 1890s between Barmen and Elberfeld and was in use there. We installed it in our cities immediately upon settlement, because the movement of crowds and cargo is easier and safer this way. The construction was also cheaper than building street-level railways or ones above rooftops.”

Until we fly in the suspended train, meanwhile I focus on the smaller dreams and plan their fulfillment, each in its time.
You too can dream, but don’t forget to will it. Because if you will it… you know 😉
