Kikar HaMedina, Tel Aviv
A month after I reviewed Rothschild Boulevard, I went to a demonstration for the first time in my life, and not just any demonstration but the “Million Man March” in Kikar HaMedina. I was squeezed between the crowds – for some reason it was more crowded on the way than inside the square itself. After being impressed from within the square, I began to do what I came for, that is, beyond the general support – I did not bring a sign but a camera and a tripod. The shooting conditions were difficult – I placed the tripod on the small pillars surrounding the square, which turned out not to be a particularly stable surface; the buildings were too close; and in general I was moved a lot because of the crowding.
I spoke a little with the creator of the Ghandi exhibit that appears here twice (because it moved with me) – the exhibit is made of hundreds, if not thousands, of bottle caps in all sorts of flavors – quote: “I drank them all.” Well done! (Whoever created the exhibit is welcome to contact me and receive credit). I decided to finish the panorama with the Akirov Towers in the background as an act of symbolism. We were taught in Studio 2 that the Zionist boulevards in Tel Aviv start as large boulevards, turn into a narrow path, and end in the Akirov Towers.
After a little over a year, I had the opportunity to visit Kikar HaMedina again. The place was quiet, nice and calm, like almost every day of the year, and green green. So I went to the center, between the two palm trees, and took a regular and calm 360 panorama including a self-portrait that was originally inside the panorama but here I decided to take it out to the accompanying pictures.
Today (2024) the square looks completely different. A construction site for three giant towers, which I am patiently waiting to be completed. I like to go back and photograph from the same place a few years apart.
