Buba The Mule's Grave, near Kinneret Group
Buba The Mule was one of the first prominent figures of the Kinneret group. She faithfully plowed, hoed, and tilled the land of the Kinneret group in the twenties and thirties of the twentieth century. After she passed away at a ripe old age, she was buried in the swamps; in 1985 Aharonik Israeli erected the monument in her memory, with the text inscribed above, and placed a plow on top of it, which was stolen in November 2016 and returned or restored – I found references to the theft but not how it was returned, and I only arrived there four and a half months after it was stolen. Today, the swamp is a huge fish pond, so large that for a moment it seems like the Jordan River itself, but it flows about half a kilometer south of there.
The scenery around the fish pond presents a lush and relaxing natural environment. The tall trees reflected in the water and the dense bushes create a sense of wild nature, while the ducks and waterfowl add life and movement to the quiet landscape. People hiking on the Israel National Trail enjoy the tranquility the place provides, and the special effect of light and shadows adds to the pastoral atmosphere. The pond reflects the beauty of the area, and invites visitors to admire the harmony between the water, the vegetation, and the life around them.
As for Buba – her memory is definitely woven into the history of Kinneret.
