Tanur Waterfall

The Tanur Waterfall is one of the most impressive sights in northern Israel, located in the Ayun Stream Nature Reserve at the tip of the Galilee Finger – Metula. I usually photograph panoramas horizontally, but this time I deviated from my habit.

Here we see the waterfall in all its glory: the water plunges from a great height and collects in a circular pool at its base, surrounded by green vegetation and steep brown-orange cliffs that add depth and contrast to the panorama. The shadows of the stream walls encompass the waterfall, highlighting the sun rays penetrating the pool and giving it a unique appearance.

It was challenging to shoot a vertical panorama while maintaining the composition without losing important details: the waterfall’s head, the water flowing in smooth yet powerful motion, the pool, and the immediate surroundings. The images were combined to encompass all these elements and create a panorama that presents the entire waterfall faithfully and completely. This is how I conveyed  the complete feeling of the place: how the water begins its journey at a high point and pours into the pool below, passing through vegetation and landscapes that appear as if carved in time.

At the Tanur Waterfall, the contrast between the rocky walls and the glistening water provides a unique photographic experience, and a real challenge for a photographer seeking to capture not just the image but also the sensation of the water’s power and impressive height.
